Matt Pinfield suffered a massive stroke at the beginning of the year that left him in a coma for two months, but miraculously the former MTV personality is not only rehabbing but is prepping to host Green Day's upcoming Hollywood Walk of Fame star unveiling ceremony later this week.

Last week, the 63-year-old shared his first Instagram post since surviving the stroke. "Slowly but surely recovering..lots of physical therapy..Fighting my way back!!" he wrote alongside the Green Day announcement. "One day at a time."

On Monday (April 28), Pinfield shared another post expressing his gratitude for the community that's rallied behind him. "I just wanted to thank all of my family, friends, and followers for all of your prayers, love, and support during such a difficult time," he captioned a photo of himself walking on a beach. "It made all the difference in my recovery. Your collective positivity and encouragement has been overwhelming. Even while emerging from a coma, my attitude remained the same as always. Grateful for the gift of life and being able to enjoy all of the people and music that I love."

"It is not lost on me how close I was to death from this stroke," he added, "Multiple medical experts thought there was a strong possibility that I would never speak or walk again. I still have a lot of work to do but I’m continuing with my rehabilitation and therapy and continually improving every day. It puts a smile on my face knowing I’ll be back on the airwaves with you very soon! So much love and thanks to you all!! I wouldn’t be here without you."

Green Day's unveiling ceremony is set to begin at 11:30am PT on May 1 and will be livestreamed on the Walk of Fame's website. See Pinfield's latest Instagram post below.
