Alex Van Halen's Drum Kit Going From Rock Hall To Auction Block For Charity

One of the most recognizable drum kits in rock history is up for auction, in the latest 'Music Icons' annual music memorabilia sale by Julien's Auctions.

Alex Van Halen's custom-designed, stage-used Ludwig drum kit from Van Halen's 1980 'Invasion' tour is the only kit of his to ever hit auction. It will be up tor sale during the June 11 - 13 event by Julien's.

"This kit from the 1980 Van Halen 'Invasion' world tour spent five years on display at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland," said Alex Van Halen. "It's the only one like it in the world and I'm happy that 100% of the selling price will be going to charity via the Frangioni Foundation and Mr. Holland's Opus [Foundation]."

Julien's conservatively estimated the final sale price of the kit as between $200,000 - $300,000. But with Van Halen memorabilia sky-rocketing in value since last year — and with this being such a unique item — it's possible the kit may sell for much more.

The auction features over 1,000 items, including instruments, memorabilia, wardrobe and personal property tied to some of the greatest 20th and 21st century pop, rock, soul and R&B artists.

Alex and his late-brother Eddie have been longtime supporters of organizations aiming to empower musicians and supply music education to under-represented communities.

The Frangioni Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization which focuses on young artist development through workshops and a world class drum program.

The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation works to keep music alive in schools by providing vital support services to school districts, and new musical instruments to underfunded music programs nationwide.
