apartment ashley fired after video of her blocking black man from his apartment goes viral

A white Missouri woman seen blocking a black man from getting into his luxury apartment building in St. Louis, Missouri was been fired by her employer on Sunday, after video of the incident went viral.

When D'Arreion Toles arrived home at the luxury apartment building where he lives in St. Louis, Missouri late Friday night, he didn't expect the woman to create a roadblock, and refuse to let him enter his building.

So, he took out his phone and began recording the incident.

"To Be A Black man in America, & come home," he captioned the three videos he posted to Facebook Friday.

The video, is reminiscent of several other videos that went viral over the summer that show a white person confronting - and occasionally calling the police on - a black person going about their normal, everyday activities

The first video posted by Toles, begins with his attempt to get into his building, as the woman (who has been identified as Hilary Brooke Mueller), blocks him from going inside.

"Please move, ma'am," Toles can be heard telling Mueller in the video. He says when he first began recording, he was still standing outside at the entrance to his condominium complex, the Elder Shirt Lofts, while Mueller blocked his way in.

"I can," she says. "Do you live here?"

"I've already answered that question," the 24-year-old Toles says as he again attempts to push past her. "Excuse me."

The woman demands to see Toles' key fob and proof that he lives there. When he declines, she again sets herself up in front of him to blocking his way in.

“If you want to come into my building...” she begins, but Toles interrupts her.

"It's not your building, you're not the owner," Toles replies, finally moving past her. "Excuse me."

In the second video, Mueller can be seen following Toles, as he asks her, "So now you're going to follow me?"

"I am," she replied.

A third video shows Mueller still shadowing Toles as he enters his apartment. But now her tune has changed, as she keeps trying to interact with him and introduce her herself as a neighbor.

"I do not want to speak with you," Toles replies, clearly done with the encounter. "Please stop following me. I'm going to call the cops for harassment. That's my next step."

"As a record I just want to say, 'Hi, what is your name?'" she begins, but Toles isn't having it, and cuts her off.

"Ma'am, you just... no. Have a good night, ma'am," he can be heard telling her in the video. "Don't ever do that again."

About 30 minutes later, Toles says police came to his door and knocked, saying that Mueller told them that she was "uncomfortable" about his being there. He told officers he was renting the unit and had even shown his key fob to Mueller as proof.

Toles posted videos of his encounter with Mueller to his Facebook page, where they quickly went viral.

On Sunday, Mueller's employer, Tribeca-STL, which manages real estate in other parts of St. Loius released a statement on its website that said their employee seen in the viral video had been let go.

“The Tribeca-STL family is a minority-owned company that consists of employees and residents from many racial backgrounds,” officials with the company, an apartment complex in St. Louis, said. “We are proud of this fact and do not and never will stand for racism or racial profiling at our company.”
